ELECTRIC FENCES

ELECTRIC FENCE SECURITY

Electric fence security has evolved into a pivotal component of contemporary security systems, establishing a formidable presence around gated communities, private properties, residences, security complexes, and various other locations demanding heightened protection. Originally devised to contain domestic livestock and later employed in safeguarding wildlife within expansive game reserves such as the Kruger National Game Park, Addo Elephant Park, Pilanesberg National Park, Madikwe Game Reserve, and Sabi Sands Game Reserve, electric fencing has undergone a transformative journey.

In the urban landscape, electric fences have emerged as a formidable deterrent against intruders seeking unauthorized access to homes. Distinct from their rural counterparts, these fences are categorized into two main classes: domestic and industrial/agricultural electric fencing. While the physical fencing delivers the electric shock upon contact, it is the energizer that generates the powerful jolt.

The proliferation of domestic electric fencing has become a phenomenon, with various manufacturers showcasing their products from one household to another. Renowned brands such as Staffix, Nemtek, MEPS, JVA, and others have introduced unique features to distinguish their offerings. Nevertheless, the underlying principle across all units revolves around controlling the current transmitted through conductors, with voltage levels ranging from 3000 to 10,000 volts (3KV - 10KV).

The appropriate voltage for electric fences depends on the application; higher voltages are suitable for livestock with wooly coats, ensuring the shock effectively penetrates through the wool to reach the skin. Conversely, for human-centric applications, lower voltages are sufficient to achieve the desired effect.

These energizers, integral to electric fence functionality, are powered by electricity and supported by sealed lead-acid battery backup systems. The latest models leverage advanced battery technologies such as lithium-ion, nickel-cadmium, and nickel-metal-hydride, with capacities ranging from 12V/36A to 12V/110A, offering versatility in current ratings. Industrial/agricultural energizers may also operate on a 24V system.

At the heart of these energizers lies cutting-edge technology, utilizing oscillation amplification to drive a high-voltage step-up transfer, further fine-tuned by large capacitors for efficient energy storage. The conductor loop, when open-circuited, triggers an alarm, serving as an effective perimeter protector.

Upon contact, the electric fence delivers voltage and current shocks akin to a taser, incapacitating muscles by transmitting voltage through the body to the ground. In essence, electric fence technology stands at the forefront of modern security, combining innovation and effectiveness to fortify our homes and properties.
